Ethnic Kazakh to contest in Polish presidential polls

Balli Marzec, who lives in Poland, is ethnic Kazakh, activist of Kazakh opposition in Europe, registered as a candidate for president of Poland, Kazpravda.kz cites rus.azattyq.org as saying.

Reportedly, on March 16, the Central Election Commission of Poland registered the campaign office of Balli Marzec.

She announced her intention to participate in presidential elections last month.

There are 25 candidates for president of Poland on the list. The presidential polls are scheduled for May 10. The current President of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski is also listed among the presidential candidates.

Balli Marzec, born Balzhan Nauryzbayeva, is the head of the Kazakh community in Poland, and is the organizer and participant in various activities in support of democratic change, protection of political prisoners and repressed opposition activists in the world.

Balzhan Nauryzbayeva was born in Kazakhstan, but after studying in Moscow, married a Polish fellow-student and moved to Poland, where she has lived for 20 years.
